Hey guys!

Just a quick question. When backing up a macbook pro using time machine to a WD harddrive with stuff already on it, does it completely wipe the HDD or does it fill up in the unused space?

I have a 750 gb WD HDD, that is currently using 200 gb.

Thanks!

if the WD has stuff off windows, it will wipe the thing . if its stuff u put from mac, it shouldnt, cause i put stuff on itall the time.

it will warn u if its gonna wipe the thing first before backing up

Correct, but only for local drives. Network drives can be formatted as just about anything.

It will not wipe anything off the drive. Even when TM has used all the available space it will only delete old TM information never other data.

Incorrect. If his drive is local, and formatted as anything but jhfsx(jhfs+ might work though), it will require reformatting to use.

So i would have to invest in another HDD if i want to keep everything thats on my current WD HDD?

Is it possible to temporarily move everything on my current HDD to another, then back up using TM, then add everything back to the HDD?

Shrink the current drive in windows, make a new partition, then tell time machine to use that. At least that's what I'd do.

I'd do that too.

I finally decided to just keep what was on my external drive on my main drive, and delegate the entire external to TM.

Definitely overkill, but I don't mind.

After shrinking the drive, and creating a new partition/backing up, can i still access the windows partition on a mac?
