I noticed the keys on a 12" PowerBook have transparent letters like the 15/17" ones, but they don't light up. Are the LEDs/Fiberoptics built in but not connected or not there at all? Just wondered if anybody ever looked into this before. Thanks

The thing that prevents the 12" from having illuminated keys is the lack of a spot for the ambient light sensors. On the 15" and 17", they're under the speaker grilles, but on the 12", the speakers are on the back side, facing the display.

Hm well if you take the top half of the case of (trackpad, power button, microphone) there would be adequate room for an ambient light sensor next to the microphone on the 12" powerbook.

Yeah, I agree. It's just a plus for the 15" and 17" PBs, that's all!

Yeah us 12"ers have it rough, gotta carry around our own Ambiant Light Sensing Keyboard Illuminators™ :D
