this is my first mac i ever bought. i have my backlit keyboard set to never turn off when computer is on and it keep on turning off after about a minute or so. is there any other settings beside in keyboard/mouse setting or is my late MBP defective?

I find that mine turns off automatically if the ambient light in the room is too bright; in other words, during the day, it is hardly ever on, unless the day is exceptionally overcast, and, at night, it only on when light is low, such as when I have turned the overhead light off, and am using accented or limited light from lamps, or nothing at all. Hope this helps a little.
Cheers

my keyboard turn off even when the room is pitch black. it's like i have it set to turn off in one minute but i have it set to never turn off.

Have you checked the settings in system preferences? Mine was going off a lot and so I selected to never turn it off. It is likely the sensors that turn it on when your typing. If you keep it on always it will help. Also, if you put you hand over the left side speaker it will come on.

The backlight on the keyboard shuts off when the display dims. Try setting the display to never dim.
