backlit keyboard not working?

whenever i try to turn on the backlit keyboard this pops up. any idea whats wrong?

edit: strangely enought after googling the problem it started working?

still, what caused this?

There's a sensor that disable it unless you're in a dim environment. That symbol is telling you its not dark enough to trigger the backlight.

Could it be, that the ambient light be too bright?
Cover the iSight camera with your hand and see, if you can change the brightness.

Ahh, thats what I was thinking, but I disregarded it since i was in a pitch black room!
