Now that people have had these for a while, and may have even lost and recovered a few items I have the below question..

I travel a lot (domestic and international) with a lot of gear, and I have 10 or so airtags (prior Tile user) dangling on bags and items, headphone, Airpods etc.

The question is. With bags, backpack etc, have them on the outside, visible so people know they are there and scan them, but they may just be ripped off and stolen, or

Hide in the bag so they aren't stolen, but the finder may not know they are there, and you will have to actually track it down yourself??

Today I am a outside dangler. I guess I still have a thread of trust in people.. wondering if I should change?

I'm both. I have one in a Belkin holder on my keychain but decided to put the other one inside my bag, mostly because I didn't want to buy a second holder.

Me, I'd make a pouch that velcro's on the inside somewhere that blends in with the material of the backpack, so it'll be after the thief has emptied the backpack that it's discovered (if it is) - should provide you enough time to recover it.

That's for theft prevention. For lost items, yep, you would want it on the outside. You know yourself how likely that is to happen to you based on your own history. We've seen at least one report of a baggage handler removing one of these from a bag - obviously not realizing that they're activation locked - in time this will be even rarer, as word as to what these are and how they work filters through the Android community.

For a particularly important/valuable bag, maybe both? A readily visible one on the outside, and a carefully hidden one on the inside. The external one would help an honest finder identify the bag to get it back to you, while also serving as a “good, I got rid of the tracker” decoy for a thief / dishonest finder. Would also let you know what type of situation you are dealing with, if the external one goes offline or is separated from the hidden one.

For traveling just keep them inside the luggage, you can track it at the airport/inside the plane's luggage compartment.

Just did a test from the current location on a sunny remote Greek island - inside the luggage in an old stone built house, no issues :)

I've done this while traveling and it's insane how accurate the Airbags are when traveling. I'd definitely keep them inside the bag though, there is no telling what the airline is doing with your luggage and throwing it around and such.

I keep my tag in a inside pocket of my backpack.. I have not purchased a good carrier for it yet to hook it on the outside. It seems to work fine how I have it now ..

Better to keep it inside, unless you want to show it off. ;) Anything dangling from your bag could be easily lost.

Inside, I use it for my motorcycles hidden no one needs to know and no thief needs to know either

If you don't want to track the closest bin to the location you lost your item in, I'd advice keeping it hidden in one of those "secret" compartments most bags have nowadays.

of course I hide it what good is it if someone see's it takes it off and throws it away? might as well not even have it if you're going to hang it off your bag. yeah it looks cool but doesn't serve any purpose.

Not everyone is a thief, actually very few people are. If they see it, they scan it and ring you. That's the purpose.
