Hey, I want to create a bootable Live CD of Backtrack 3 to run on my iBook G4. I'm really tired right now so that may be why I'm having trouble figuring this out, but I can't seem to figure out how to create a bootable disc with Disk Utility. I burned the Backtrack 3 ISO to a disc but it wouldn't boot. So now I'm wondering: 1. How do you create a bootable disc using an ISO with Disk Utility, and 2. Is it even possible to run a Backtrack 3 Live CD on an iBook G4?

What usually trips people up is they burn the .iso FILE to a CD, rather than burn the image that's IN the .iso file to a CD. You have to mount the image in the Disk Utility, and then burn the image to the CD. Here's an extract from a macosxhints article...

1. Insert a blank disc.
2. Start Disk Utility.
3. From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.
4. In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
5. Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.

I've got it setup in VMWare. Sorry, I know that don't help you much but I just wanted to share it with you.

Do you have to do anything to get it to see network traffic outside of vmware?

It can't see wireless traffic that OSX is seeing can it?

how to run backtrack 3 on macbook

My MacBook has dual boot Windows XP Pro and OS X version 10.5.3.

Requirement:

- Boot Camp Assistant (included with MacBook)
- BackTrack 3 Live CD (http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html)

Instruction: How to Run (not install) BackTrack 3 on MacBook

1. Log on to your MacBook with an administrative account.

2. Run Boot Camp Assistant located in Macitosh HD/Applications/Utilities
- At Introduction, click Continue
- At the Select Task section, choose Start the Windows installer.
- At the Start Windows Installation section, insert Backtrack 3 Live CD, then click Start Installation.

Your MacBook will reboot into Backtrack 3. I tested my stuff. My network card Netgear WG111v2 with driver rtl8187, airmon-ng, airodump-ng, aireplay-ng, aircrack-ng all worked. Good luck and enjoy.
