Backtracking and looping

I noticed a lot of good bands and their drummers have a Mac beside them, and when they press like a key .. A drum loop, effect loop, backtrack starts playing.

I'm a drummer myself, I've made a few loops on Garageband but I don't know how to use the loops in an easier way.

Any suggestions on softwares like that?
