Backup 3G SHSH?

My 3G is running 3.1.3, downgraded from 4.0b1. I want to jailbreak it with Spirit, do I need to back up my SHSH file before or am I good just plugging it in and jailbreaking it?

The 3G does not use signed firmware. SHSH are irrelevant for the 3G.

Thats what I thought. So i'm good to j/b with Spirit and I can revert back to non-j/b 3.1.3 if I want?
