Backup and router advice needed, for a apple macbook pro and Dell PC...

Novice here, getting an Apple laptop, but still having a old Dell PC (four years old, usual PC problems, but still working).

What would be the best solution: an apple extreme with one hard disk (and which one? Iomega?) , or two hard disks (one for laptop and one for PC??) or solve the whole thing with one timecapsule (but will i need a different backup for my PC or can I use the timecapsule as well).

What is the consensus here of what is the best hard disk?
