backup deletes and reinstalls apps

when all my apps on my iphone 4 are installed, the automatic backup deletes them all. then, the next backup reinstalls them all. this is a problem for obvious reasons, but an example would be when i set an alarm app on my phone to ring at a certain time in the morning, i will go to sleep, the phone will back itself up at some point during the night, and the app will be deleted, along with all my other apps. needless to say, the alarm doesn't go off.

anybody have any ideas?
