I recently upgraded my iMac G5 which was running mac 10.5.8 to an iMac intel 10.6. I took the HD out of the G5, put it in an enclosure, and formatted it.

Can I use that drive as a backup drive on my Macbook Air using Carbon Copy Cloner? The drive in the enclosure is powered so there should be no strain on the Air's system?

Sure, why not? But if you're going to backup you may want to use something that backs up only ALTERED files, rather than the WHOLE system because there's NO reason to backup the default system files.

Use Time Machine, it's my savior...and it saves on Advil.

Great idea. I just never connected Time Machine with my laptop although I use it on my desktop. Thanks.
