I have a Time Capsule where the internal drive died a couple of months ago. I added an external drive to the USB port on the back of the Time Capsule & have been happily backing up all three of my Macs to that for several months. Yesterday, the drive got knocked off the shelf, and fell onto a carpeted floor about 18" below. Since that time, the drive will no longer work as a Time Machine drive. The weird thing is that if I plug it directly into any of my Macs it works just fine. It just won't work when hooked up through the wifi.

I also have problems accessing the drive (to open folders/ download files, etc) over wifi, but again these work just fine when plugged directly into a computer. If I try to create a new folder on the drive, I get the error message "The Operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (Error code -50).

At first I thought I must have damaged the hard drive, but now I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas on what I might try?

Thanks in advance,

I'm thinking that the PORT on the Time Capsule got damaged from the knock-off.
Try a different cable if you can.

Thanks again. Looks like it was the cable. A new cable & everything is working fine again
