Hi,

I have a new macbook pro and after reading various threads I want to buy a gtech 320gb external drive.

The only one I can track down is the firewire400. (at a reasonable price)

The MB is FW800.

will the FW400 work OK and is the speed significantly slower?

Thanks

Lawrie

FW800 is backwards compatible with FW400. As long as you have the right converter cable.

While FW400 is slower then FW800, it is plenty fast. I'm not going to quote spec numbers, but I think the harddrive will be the bottleneck and not the version of firewire that is being used.
