WHere do I go now to backup a phone on a MacBook Air? My new iPhone 12 128 GB Pacific Blue should be arriving within the next few hours. I want to be ready by having already backed up what will soon be my former iPhone XR to my new MacBook Air that I purchased last month. Since there is no longer iTunes, I don't know where to go to backup the iPhone to a computer so that I can restore it to the new device when it arrives.

Connect your XR to your MacBook via USB and it will show up in finder. Then, it will be very similar to iTunes with regards to backing up. I think it's pretty intuitive and you should have no troubles getting it backed up.

Also, you can do a phone to phone transfer when you get your new iPhone as well. Something else to consider when setting up your new phone.

Thank you. This did the trick. Although I have a USB-C to lightning that I tried first and the MBA didn’t recognize the phone in finder even though the battery charge indicator seemed to recognize it. When I changed to a regular usb to lightning vis the sub adapter, everything went fine.

Now if that damn FedEx truck that my phone was scanned on to 89 minutes ago would hurry up and get here I could get this changeover started!!
