backup photos, restore, reload photos without itunes. how?

as per the thread title, i want know if it is possible to backup my entire photo album, restore my phone, then reload the backed up photos into the photo album.

plugging the phone into the computer, copying the photos out and reloading them doesn't work.

i want these backed up photos back into the camera roll without using itunes.

possible?
