Hi all,

First off, I've been friendly with the search function on the site and can't seem to find answers to my questions.

I have a 2TB Backup Plus Portable drive that I use as a time machine backup drive (among other things). I was backing up my MacBook Air and accidently pulled the cable out from the computer. After this improper eject happened, I was unable to get my MacBook, or iMac to recognize or mount the drive.

I opened disk utility on my iMac and located the drive there. I began the sequence to repair the disk and it's been running for four days straight and still appears to be processing. I altered my iMac setting to prevent it from sleeping. I can tell the Seagate drive has been spinning continually during this time. Further, using the iMac's activity monitor, I can see that the disk utility program is pulling from the CPU resourses, thus I think it's actually still running.

Questions:

1. Is it normal for the drive to take this long to repair, or do you think it's not repairing properly (I have only used approximately 500GB of drive space).

2. Are there any other methods I can employ to get the drive to successfully mount again (I've already explored the troubleshooting section to no avail)?

3. If I stop the repair sequence now, will it damage the drive?

Thanks so much!

Jim
