Why hasn’t my watch backed up in almost two years? I thought it backed up every night with my phone backup? I’ll be moving to my new phone tomorrow and I’d like the transition to be smooth. I know I’ve made changes to the watch since the last backup.

I fear when it’s time to restore it’s not going to give me a recent date to restore from. I've never had a smooth transition with my watch and I’d like to change that. And the more I read about backups online the more confused I get.

Thanks.

Thanks. That's what I've done in the past. Unpair watch, back up iPhone to iCloud but when it's time to restore the recent back up isn't there. I've even done it at the Apple Store and they seem perplexed the recent restore point isn't an option. Maybe it's a timing issue. I'll unpair the watch tonight and see if the recent back up is there in the morning.

I always setup my new watches as “new”, eg took way less than 1 hour to setup my Ultra2, reason: review settings, learn about new settings and such. YMMV

The new watch has to be on the same or newer version of watch OS as the old watch. Sometimes if a point release came out after the product release, the old watch can be on a newer OS than the new watch. In that case, updating the new watch to the latest OS should cause the missing backup to show up.

Thanks. I updated the current phone and watch to the latest firmware last night. Fingers crossed for a smooth transition.

I unpaired my S7 which created a backup then restored to my Ultra 2 after it had updated to 10.0.1.
