Backup/Syncing Question

Hi all,

I use my iMac for syncing and updating my current iPhone 3G. Would it be possible to do that to my MacBook instead? I just want to create a backup so I can use that backup to update my iPhone 4 without having to go back home after I bought it!

I have way too many computers!
