I hope I'm not being redundant. I searched for this answer and did not find it:

I backed up my iPhone 4 to my computer. My iPhone 5s will arrive in a few days. Each phone has a unique serial number. Can I "restore" the several gigabytes of information from one phone to another, even though each has a different identifier? Or does the backup just recognize the phone from which it received the information?

You can restore just fine. I'd suggest upgrading the 4 to iOS 7 while you wait. Makes for a smoother transition backup/restore-wise in my opinion.

You can but its a bad idea to do so when changing hardware or major software revisions. There have been known problems in the past.

Yes, this should work just fine. Especially if you had the iPhone 4 updated to iOS 7 when you completed the back up.
