Backup Twice in a chain

Is it possible to...

Backup my MBP with Time Machine via OS X Server to the Mac Mini Hard Drive, then instead of every hour, every WEEK copy the sparsebundle to an external drive.

So backup the MBP every however often TM does, then backup the backup every week.

Is that possible?

You could use the app Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the backup data to the external. The app has a built in scheduling function that you can setup like you described.

If you just want two backups though, Mountain Lion supports multiple backup disks. You could just leave the one TM backup running to the Mini like you are now, then setup TM to also backup to the external when you plug it in.

The external stays plugged into the mac mini since we host a lot of data from it, so unplugging it is impractical. But I will try CCC.
