Backup/Upgrade question (too much to put in title)

If I backup my JB'ed 2.0.2 iPhone with iTunes then restore/update it with 2.1, will it work to restore from the backup I just made so I can get all my data back (sms, app data, recent calls/map locations, etc) and still have 2.1? Or will it restore it back to 2.0.2?
