I changed my backup in iTunes for the iPhone / iPad location to an external hard drive. But i'm getting some issues.. it keeps saying that the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad . My external hard drive is working properly though, how do I fix it ?

Hi, have you found a solution to this?

I had done the exact same thing as you, being that my Macbook Pro was quickly running out of space.
