I am backing up my quicken 2004 data to a cd-rw. The first backup creates a file called 112 quicken data.qdfm. I want the next file to overwrite this file (when I close quicken again). Unfortunately, it just creates another one called 1112quicken data.qdfm. This seems to go on forever.

I have the preferences set to only keep one copy of the backup.

Any advice?

Try saving it to just the drive as a test. To see if it overwrites that file just on the harddrive with the new one. The keep only one copy might not be what you think it is, or it thinks you are using a CD-R and not a RW. And also make sure its and RW, my boss came to me one time with a problem just like this, and we only had R's at the time so I was confused why he thought he could rewrite to it. So I had to order some RW's.
