Backup with Time machine on an HD used for other things?

Hi,
Just a quick question regarding Time machine... I have a external hard drive I use for other things (video photos, etc) but I was wondering if I could also use it to back up? I have plenty of space left on it, and I'd only be backing up 50 gigs.

You should be able to if it's formated in the mac format. I use my 1TB mybook for time machine and other general things.
