Backup without paying for .Mac?

I was surprised to learn that the Backup utility imposes a 100mb limit on non .Mac users. I have no other need for .Mac, so it seems rather steep to fork over $100 a year. Is it possible to just purchase backup on its own?

Alternatively, are there any brands of external hard disk that come bundled with similar software for the Mac?

Just get an external (preferably Firewire) hard drive and run something like Silverkeeper with it.
