So, I got my brand new 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro - I was so excited to try it out. So I unpacked it, marveled at its beauty for a second, opened the lid, the familiar chime sounded, and I was waiting and waiting…. And then I heard macOS sounds…. Only - still no picture on screen. I tried to reset it and - the same. Tried to enter recovery - the same.

Finally, I took it back. Now, we have an official Apple Premium Reseller not the actual Apple Store, meaning they have the same service programs and everything is officially supported by Apple. So they said they will do some additional diagnostic, but after checking it out, basically, they believe it’s just a dud.

They would normally offer me a replacement immediately, but they sold out everything. Every single new MBP sold out. We’re a small market and they literally told me they have no idea when new shipments will be, but it’s doubtful they will happen this year. In two other Apple Resellers all MBPs are also sold out.

So, they will refund me…. With apologies. And it seems I won‘t be getting a MBP this year, after all. Bad luck. I mean, at least I got my money back, so it’s not all bad - but I was really looking forward to it. I was hoping to share my first impressions, but all I can say is - the keyboard is really nice and it doesn’t look that much physically bigger than my 15” :)

Well, that’s it. I guess I was lucky last year by getting a launch PS5 while my friends had to wait half a year ? This is now some bad luck. I’m not angry and I’m not going to rant about “Apple going down hill” or anything - these things happen. When you make millions of these devices, some of them will not work out of the box. It sucks, but hey, I can tell myself that by the time I get it, the kinks will be worked out :)

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Sorry to hear that. My 16" Max that arrived on Tuesday was even more dead than your Pro, I just got repeated chimes. So I panicked and bought one from another company and got it the next day. Now I've got to return the dead one for a refund but the apple website won't give me a return label so I'm going to have to chat to someone from Apple.

Hi Aevan:

Sorry to read this. Apple should move your to front of the line to get you a replacement.

Don

As long as they don't move your in front of me! LOL.

Before going through a lengthy replacement with Apple I would've checked if the screen connector is connected properly. If not, it could've been an easy fix. And no, it does not void the warranty. ;)

In my case, it was followed by this:
