in my finder, Macintosh HD is completely full, with "Zero KB" remaining. Even after deleting over 20 gs of files, and emptying the trash, I can't claim any KB back. I still remain at Zero KB remaining.

I have no idea what to do. I heard it may have something to do with ghost files, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

I have never had this issue before, but one trick to show all files is to open terminal and type these commands:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles True

then press enter
then type:

Killall Finder

This will show all hidden files. Don't just go deleting anything though.

To hide the recently exposed files, type the same things but change "True" to "False"

After deleting the files did you empty the trash?

UPDATE: Sorry I just seen that you said you did empty the trash in your post.

Did you try a reboot?
