Apple has inked a deal for "Bad Monkey" an upcoming television series that's set to star Vince Vaughn, Apple announced today.

The 10-episode drama is based on Carl Hiaasen's 2013 novel of the same name. It tells the story of Andrew Yancy, a South Florida detective who has been demoted to a restaurant inspector. After a tourist finds a severed arm while out fishing, Yancy is pulled innto a world of greed and corruption that decimates the environment in Florida and the Bahamas.

According to Apple, reviews of the book called it "a comedic marvel ... beautifully constructed," and "a rollicking misadventure in the colorful annals of greed and corruption in South Florida."

"Bad Monkey" comes from writer Bill Lawrence who also works as a writer and executive producer on "Ted Lasso."

Very awesome!! this looks great - the description takes everything I love and puts it into one package - it's like Bill wrote the show for me, lol!

Bill Lawrence is clearly enjoying his relationship with Apple and the tremendous success of Ted Lasso. I've always been a mega-fan of Lawrence's since Scrubs, so I'm really happy about Apple building this relationship.

Fantastic news. Hiaasen's novels are endlessly entertaining and their adaptations usually turn out well (usually... I'm looking at you, 'Striptease'). Add in the very reliable Bill Lawrence and you've got a winner!

Could anyone find a target release date? I'm sure it will take some time to get this all tooled up, but I could not find any mention of when they expect to film and release.

Dismembered bodies are comedic? Well, maybe if this were The Addams Family.

I can’t say I’m disappointed in Apple TV, because I never allowed my expectations to rise very high. After all, this is television, the boob tube. But neither have I been pleasantly surprised. Nothing really rises above the level of what you might find on Netflix. The Asimov Foundation series sounded intriguing but the choice of show runner did not auger well and recent comments about the show in the press are — well, not encouraging.

Apple doesn’t seem able to think outside the Hollywood box, but then again, I don’t think they intended to try.

Vince Vaughn is one of those actors that makes me full on belly laugh. I for one am very excited for this. Bring it on
Well this is a drama and not a comedy. If you need to prepare yourself to see Vaughn in a dramatic role I highly suggest Brawl in Cellblock 99. Let's just say I'm not a Vaughn fan... serviceable in a comedy as long as the group surrounding him has some comedic chops. Never pictured Vaughn as serious actor until I saw this movie.
