I just got a new video camera. It has the option to record to a mini DVD or an SD card. I didn't want to use the mini DVD since it only records 20 mins on high quality.

When I record video to the SD card, the camera limits video quality to the lowest setting. Is this common for cameras that record to a SD card?

Is there a better option out there? Are mini DV tapes any good? I want to be able to import to my mac for editing and DVD burning.

Thanks!

I have something similar in an flash memory HD camcorder. It uses an sd card to store your movies on, but the video is not smooth. Really jerky and sometimes it seems like the video can't even keep up when I'm playing it. I'm wondering if I need to have some sort of high speed sd card or something to make this work correctly. You may have the same sort of issue recording to an sd card.

I found the same camera in miniDV format for about the same price. I'm probably going to just exchange it for that one.

Anyone have good experience with this camera or miniDV cameras in general?
