I got the following message in Cydia... what the hell does it mean?

Your “ECID” is XXXXXXXXXXXX

Apple uses this identifier in its software verification process: iTunes sends this to apple, Apple grants access to that device for the current firmware build.

When Apple releases new software, it takes a while to find a new jailbreak. You therefore need to trick Apple into letting you keep using old software.

If you agree, Cydia’s server will keep old copies of Apple’s “yes, that’s fine” responses “on file” for your ECID for the current released Apple software.

You want this: please agree.

This is what allows Cydia to automatically store your SHSH blobs so you can downgrade if you need to. Definitely a positive thing. Click ALLOW!

LOL It means exactly what it reads, They want to "saved" your ECID and they are asking you for permission, Cydia use your ECID to save your SHSHs blobs so you don't have to do anything else.

Why do you say this is badly written?

Just click agree if you want Cydia to save your hashes for you....

I'm also missing the part where it's badly written....

In fact, it answers all of your questions about it.

Did you even read it?

It's not clear, I don't speak technobabble.

The only technical words in it are:
ECID /which he explains/
firmware
software
server
jailbreak
Cydia

If you don't know the meaning of those words then you are going trough a treacherous & dangerous path everytime you jailbreak :p;)

This is technobabble:

I think a 10 year old can understand that. I mean it is basically a definition...

This is 100% true, I just called my 10 year old daughter in here and had her read it. While she might not know what cydia and such are, she did understand the concept of what they were trying to do! Im not trying to be mean, but if you dont understand "technobabble" please leave the jailbreaking alone! It will cause you more problems then what its worth!

Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean that it was badly written. You probably don't understand Shakespeare either, but that doesn't make him a dumbass.

I think Saurik, very wisely, anticipated this. This is why he put that last line in the message:

I don't think you can make it any clearer than that.

Actually I kind of agree with OP. It reads as if your apps will just stop working one day unless you provide Cydia your ECID/SHSH.
What they wrote is technically accurate, but it leave some wiggle room for misinterpretation. The meaning is not really clear unless you already know what it means. Therefore does not provide new users with appropriate information to make a decision.

They may as well say:
We need some stuff that could make your life easier down the road.
click Agree to give it to us; you've been warned
