I have put an bagground picture on my Leopard by right-click on picture and choosen the last option - I dont know exactly what it's called in english version of OS X - but it means "use on desktop". I want to find the picture-file. I cannot find it in "pictures" or in libary.
Where is it stored?

The current picture that is your background wallpaper is stored in the cache. There is no way (that I know of) to get the picture from the cache.

You could always hide all your icons and take a picture of your desktop if you really need it.

What app were you in when you set it? Were you in Finder, or something like Safari? If it was Safari, it’ll be at ~/Library/Safari/Safari Desktop Picture.jpg (the extension probably depends on what kind of files it initially was).

If you still have the background set as your desktop:

System Prefs > Desktop & Screensaver > Desktop > Click, Hold, Drag the picture out of the small preview box onto your desktop.
