Does anyone have any clue if Apple is planning to make the bands future proof? I don't expect the form factor to stay the same forever, but 1 or 2 more iterations that are compatible with the current bands would be nice. Not knowing this is the only thing keeping me from getting the SS link bracelet.

Personally, I think it's a safe bet that they'll keep the existing connectors until they make the case thinner than the connectors. Think Lightning cable and USB-C port on the new MacBook.
Probably at least a couple of gen more since Mooers' law doesn't cover batt tech. So we are likely to have the same depth for battery life for a while. Apple put a 'ton' of design thought into the bands and the Lightning cable analogy fits.
