Too bad they have the crappy 6600 LE in the Dual Core G5.
That explains the 3D gaming and Core Image speed tests.

I am suprised by the iMove render test!
The Core solo faster than a Dual Core G5???

I guess iMovie is also using the graphics proc...

I was more surprised by the fact that if you extrapolate... ...a hypothetical dual 2Ghz G4 with a fast graphics card would keep apace with both the CoreDuo and the G5.

I wish they'd say exactly what settings they had on Doom 3. I am not really a gamer, but fancy playing Doom 3 on my MBP (when it finally arrives) and I want to know if it will look good or just about be playable at the lowest settings...

I want to play Doom 3 because my 1GHz PB is just a joke when it comes to the GPU.

THERE IS MORE TO SPEED THAN A FAST CPU
Your laptop spends much of its time reading from and writing to the internal hard drive. You can increase performance by installing a faster hard drive. Hitachi and Seagate have notebook 7200RPM drives that hold 100GB. Apple now offers a 7200rpm Configure To Order option when you purchase the MacBook Pro online.

Huzzah! I knew there was a good reason I opted for the 7200rpm.

Did I view that Photoshop test correctly? Excellent!

Edit: Obviously I didn't... I got too caught up in the "longer bars." :p Still not that bad, though.

The PowerMac should be using a 7800GT or Quadro for a better comparison, but the new Intel Macs put up very good numbers. The PowerBook G4 is totally let down by that FSB but the GPU still has some life left in it.

I can't wait to get my own MacBoook in a few months when it comes time for a new Mac...

Did anyone else notice the 'Macbook solo'

am I mad or is this not out yet?

I think they disabled one core on the MacBook Pro to test it as a Solo. Also, I think the PM G5 should have been tested with the 7800GT, not with the horrible 6600 LE.

if you read the article, they mention that they disabled a single CPU using CHUD tools, which they've done in all of their core duo shootouts to compare it to similar single core machines.

If they didn't have the 7800 on hand, it seems a little unreasonable to go spend $300-400 just for a few benchmark numbers.

pointblank,

why do you have an ebay auction link posted here, when you have Ø items for sale at this time

I had a bunch of items up for sale a week or two ago and never revised my sig. But thanks to you, I will fix it now. :) Thanks!

hey man, next time try reading; it's not hard. ;)

these numbers look quite promising considering the yonah based chips are really only a stop-gap measure for the more powerful merom and conroe :)
