We can all agree that the tech in the watch is pretty awesome. The bendable oled display, the sensors, and the amount of research Apple conducted to be able to create one of the most accurate calorie expenditure analysis.

From a price stand point, you are absolutely getting the best deal buying the base model $349-$399 or $549-$599 watches.

As the watches move to the leather and stainless bands going upwards of $999, that is where Apple is really making all of the profits.

Considering in the past, you have been able to buy a high tech leather cover for the iPad using significantly more leather and other materials at a cost of only $69, there is no reasonable excuse for why a leather watch band should cost $100-$200 and a stainless steel band should cost $100-$400. The cost of materials for making those items are less than $5.00.

To me, this pricing strategy exemplifies Apple's past strategies with phones and iPads of charging $100 to move from 16gb to 32gb of memory given the fact that the extra 16gb costs Apple maybe an extra $5.00 if that.

What do you think? Could it be more worth it to invest in a base model this year and wait for the 2nd generation to come to come out to get a higher end band being that the 2nd generation will probably have more longevity.
