base model mini is it suffice for these usage?

surfing net
watching 1080p movies (very intensive)

yeah, the base should be fine for that. I am doing all that and editing (light) video and audio. I got the least expensive base and added external storage for my collection of music and videos. Lovely machine. Works great. Highly recommend.

It's more than enough for that. You could do all that with 4GB even. So 8 is even smoother.

I'm not a fan of Apple putting a Core i3 into the base model, but these are tasks it can easily handle.

my current 2014 mini lasted for 5 yrs, and i hope the new mini will last the same
i'm leaning towards the base model but should i upgrade to i7 or go for the 3.0GHz 6-Core Processor 8gb/256 GB Ssd instead?

Absolutely perfect. 8GB is also enough, although 16GB may... help as years ago on etc. I do similar stuff, have a fair few tabs and programmes open, e.g. Spotify, FireFox as well as Safari etc, and use 12GB ram.
