I'd buy the current base Macbook Pro which is right within my budget if only it came with 256gb since the current 128gb is a bit tight for my needs.

I know nobody knows for certain but how likely is the next update to have 256gb for the base price model? Has Apple ever had a 64gb rMBP?

If it's very unlikely, I may just have to go for the 256gb Macbook Air.

Can't predict what apple will do, but intel's new X-point storage is on the way and will help push SSD prices down.

SSD prices have dropped in the past 6 months.

Not sure if Apple will make 256 GB standard though, its one of the ways they can up-sell you into CPU that you don't want/need.

Id consider the macbook over the macbook air... if you can live without the ports. But i'd also wait for revision 2 of that.

Maybe just put a bit more money away to buy what you really want?

But the 256gb rMB is also costlier than the base rMBP.

There are quite a few other major differences between the two, but the base models both cost the same amount. I'm just speculating at this point, so we'll have to wait and see what actually happens.

13" rMBP 2.7GHz core i5/8GB RAM/128GB SSD - $1299
12" rMB 1.1GHz core M/8GB RAM/256GB SSD - $1299
