I’m not a prosumer, rather an experienced user that makes movies from pics and does normal tasks. I have an iMac 27 2015 maxed out being replaced by the studio. Also have a base 14 MacBook Pro. I knew going in the studio would be overkill, but needed more ram than the mini and could not wrap myself around buying 2 yr old tech.

Display - Have a lg 32 ultra and was not happy with the display quality, lacked dpi, and overall color accuracy. Loved my iMac display. So went with the studio display with tilt as I already have an acrylic display stand from amazon that looks and works great.

The studio display is gorgeous. The build quality is fantastic. I have no problems with the camera (running 12.3.1) and my team calls have been flawless, everyone says I look great. The sound quality is very good, good enough that I have ditched my HK bookshelves and will use the studio. I have headphones for exceptional listening. The display speakers are just that good. As expected the color accuracy calibrated perfectly and I am thrilled with the display. I build a lot of pptˋs and write research papers, the text is crisp and clear, one of the weak points of the lg. I have experienced no eye strain using this display. Only downside is that it needs to be connected to an apple comp to use the settings, setup etc. My spouse wanted one, but uses a windows system due to work, so it is a no go for that purpose.

is it worth $1600 , given the lg set me back 1300 and I was able to use my military discount , I’m okay with the apple tax price. But I think $1200 should have been the price point. Given I don’t need speakers or a web cam, the pricing is competitive with the quality In my opinion. I own or have owned 12 displays in the $1000 range and the studio beats them all. It’s a keeper and I am a happy camper.

Studio - it doesn’t really compete with the iMac. The iMac is old, slow and now temperamental. It is 16gb ram, intel and while okay, rendering movies importing pics, editing on the iMac is okay, darn good when I bought it but the specs and user experience simply are too dated to compare. In stead I used my 14 MacBook Pro that I got as an Xmas present to compare and run some tests. The iMac can’t handle raw 8k stuff so there are tasks I was never able to do on it. The MacBook pro another story. By the way I’m keeping the pro as I need portability.

so on to the studio. It is silent. Yes silent. I was very worried about this after reading the forum. Mine is quiet, cannot hear the fans. Even as I was importing raw 8k and video editing. Setup was smooth and easy, assuming you have been around apple products previously. I had over 112 windows open and not a flicker, my pro can’t handle that, assume it is due to double the ram in the studio. Tasks that take 10-12 mins on my pro are done in less than 7 mins on the studio. The user experience is stellar. My biggest gripe is that it does not come standard with 1tb. I have several workflows that require 500-600 gab to work in, my pro was upped to 1tb and the studio was also upped to 1 tv. So far (after 4 days with it) I have not thrown a task or workflow that the studio cannot handle. I have reached the limits on a few workflows wi th the pro. I continue to be amazed at the speed and handling of the studio. Hooked up both displays to it ( lg and studio) to see how that handled. Flawlessly!!! I took a research paper with several videos and much animation and it ran perfectly on the studio. The same paper on my pro stutters. For large prentations I plan on bringing my studio with me , that I can actually carry the studio with me and set it up so easily is mind boggling! I tried the sad card reader with several cards, one did not work, all others did. Don’t know what the difference was, but am looking to find out as I do not want to have sensitive and time consuming work go down the drain because of a card. All worked fine with my mb pro.

i can’t imagine I will need much more headroom for several years and expects this computer to last 5 yrs without a doubt. My only wish is that the storage was not as expensive as apple storage is and that it was user upgrade able. The story is still out on whether I can live with the 1tb internallly. The prospect of bringing it with me for several workflows is exciting. Just can’t drag my n’as with me.

sorry for the long read. But wanted to cover as much ground as I could. I am beyond thrilled with my setup and can’t imagine I won’t be thrilled with the studio for se real years!

Thanks for the review Joe! I can't hear mine either. Of course, I have an OWC 4 bay chassis with 4 spinning hard drives in it which is quite loud. The iPhone decibel meter puts the OWC around 56db.
