In the Overview for the new AS MBP, Apple has a footnote (no. 3) with the following language. Yet they don't have any statement in the text that references footnote no. 3. So it seems they were planning to make such a comparison, but ended up leaving it out (at least for now). Perhaps they will add it later.
With the exception of their claims about having the highest-performing integrated graphics in the industry, and the highest efficiency, this is the only footnote I found referencing a comparison to industry performance generally. All other comparisons are to the i3 in the 13" Intel MBP.
Oddly, this footnote is also in the Overviews for the MBA and Mini (probably an editorial error; perhaps these were there as placeholders in anticipation of making such comparisons for the M1 in the MBA and Mini).
