Looking for additional storage at a reasonable price in my 2015 Macbook Pro Retina I elected to buy a BaseQi micro SD adapter from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/BASEQI-aluminum-microSD-Adapter-MacBook/dp/B012F8ALBC) and a Samsung 32GB Class 10 w/UHS-1 rating (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6Y5Q/) microSDHC card.

Using "Blackmagic Disk Speed Test" I did a speed comparision of the BaseQi against the Samsung SD adapter included with the memory card. The card was formatted as Mac OS Extended - Journaled (not encrypted) using mac OS (Sierra) and all tests were performed on the same computer.

Let me note that I did NOT expect a micro SD card to equal the speed of the internal SSD. But I did expect the BaseQi performance to be similar to the Samsung SD adapter.

Imagine the suprise to discover that the BaseQi is approximatly 5 times slower writing and 21 times slower reading than the Samsung SD adapter.

The BaseQi write speed was 3.5 MB/s and read speed was 4.0 MB/s.
The Samsung write speed was 18.4 MB/s and read speed was 87.6 MB/s.

UPDATE: Decided to order a generic MicroSD Adapter from (eBay) to test the speed of a $3.50 (US) unit. Equal read speed and slightly slower write speed than the Samsung adapter. Here are the results:
