basic lagging question

I have an iBook G4 and am running in to some serious lagging lately. I understand the computer is no spring chicken, but i am getting beach balled and forced to wait a lot longer than i used to have to. what are some basic thigns i can do to help this? the more comments and/or ideas the better. thanks in advance!

Repair permisisons
Run cron scripts
Clear Safari's cache or reset it
Make sure you have adequate free disk space
