I know that Logic is far better than Garage Band as far as features and loops, but as far as basic recording, would they be about the same? For instance, if I were to record using just live instruments and vocals through a Duet 2, could I get the same quality in Garage Band that Logic has?

To put it simply, is the audio engine the same?

If you record at the sample rate/bit depth and use the same interface the result raw recording will be the same. Things start to change once you start applying effects and stuff like that.

as already stated, as long as your bit depth, and sample rate are the same your daw should make no diff how your audio sounds. that's what the converters on your sound card are for. that being said, go pick yourself up cockos reaper. leaps and bounds better than gb and only 40 bucks. I actually like it better than logic for straight recording audio.
