I am trying to convert a large amount of DOC files into PDFs.

I tried dragging them all into Acrobat Distiller, and it just created log files with the following content:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: PK ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

I tried using an automator script, "convert format of word documents", and got this result in the log pane: (using the directions found here)
(check mark) Get Specified Finder Items completed
(check mark) Conversion from Files/Folders completed
(X) Convert format of word documents failed - 1 error
[this expands to] (X) The object you are trying to access does not exist.

Oddly, this did create one PDF file with the right name, but the file couldn't be opened. I was trying 4 files.

I tried using "Batch Create" multiple files in Acrobat and it said "cannot find files". I had dragged the files into the window just fine. But when I open the "Add files" dialog, the word files are ghosted out.

Opening a single document in Word, hitting Print, and selecting "Save as PDF" works fine!!!

From the problem I noted above in the "Add files" dialog within Acrobat's "Batch Create" I may infer that maybe word files aren't supported in this way. Which seems hard to believe. But, the automator function should have worked, no?

Any ideas what's going on and how I can accomplish the conversion without just opening each individual file? Help would be much appreciated.

Thank you! :)

(Running OS 10.7.4, Word 14.1, Acrobat Pro 9.5.1)
