I'm looking for an app for osx that will run in the background, going through my rather cumbersome library and add lyrics to the metatags so they will show up on my ipod touch.

I use GimmeSomeTune! Which works reasonalbly well but only fetches lyrics when the song is played. I've also tried Corripio which purportedly does exactly this, but is pretty worthless as it only successfully matches lyrics with about 1 in a hundred songs in my library. Anyone know of any other alternatives?

I use Harmonic, but like the others, it only downloads lyrics when at least a few seconds of a song is played. It successfully finds lyrics without assistance around 75% of the time. One click launches a search for lyrics, that can easily be copied and pasted. I'd also like a batch operation, especially with the size of my library, but this is the best I've found, so far.

Do any of these programs download and copy the lyrics into iTunes in the background, or do you have to manually cut and paste?

Harmonic does it in the background, except in the cases where it can't find the lyrics. There's no intervention required if it finds them. If it doesn't, you still don't have to do anything with it, if you don't want to take the time to find the lyrics. Since it's a widget, a quick glance at the Dashboard sometime during a song will tell you if the lyrics were found or not.

I also use gimmesometune, and I found a workaround to download tracks faster then playing through the song. Get the Needle Drop applescript for iTunes (http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=needledrop). This allows you to play a song for a specified amount of time (1 second, 2 seconds, etc.) This way each song will play for only 1 second, which prompts gimmesometune to download the lyrics, then iTunes will automatically go to the next song until it plays all the songs and downloads all the lyrics in your library.
