Batch Rename pdfs and docs?

I have to download about 100 .doc and .pdf files for a course I'm doing. Unfortunately, the files all have names like 37193469138463193.pdf. :(

Does anyone know of either;

1) an applescript or automator action that will rename the documents with the first line in the text of the document [i.e. the heading], or
2) a plug-in for safari, chrome, firefox or opera that will save the files using the name on the link [i.e the title in the web browser that you click on, that is also the pdf link].
