batery discharge question

Hi....I have a mac book pro and I was told to discharge it about once every 3 weeks (roughly) (by discharge i mean wait until battery meger is below 10% and fully re-charge)

1) is this necessary?

2) now, for my iphone, is this necessary?

why or why not for both...

All batteries you should try to run out then recharge when you can instead of use a little, recharge a little. It results in longer battery life.

That is only for the older NiMH technologies. Lithium-Ion is better with shallow cycling.

Do charge the battery often. The battery lasts longer with partial rather than full discharges.
