Hello everybody,

New to Ipad.
I´d like to restrict charging my ipad M3 to above 80%.

I couldn´t find anything in the app shop that makes me think it´s wajht i need. Exept one which requires some HW thing.

Backround:
i run an audio interface on my Ipad. It is bus powered. No PSU socket.
I run a USB-C hub, and just feed it with power to avoid that my ipad discharges from my audio interface. This can´t be it.
it´s a Ipad Air M3 from 2025. Its quasi sole purpose/usage is for audio work in my studio. I´d like to just keep the PSU plucked in.

Or is there a setting in my ipad i can do ?
I don’t believe you can do that unless you jailbreak your iPad Air, unlike the al dente macOS app. Apple restricts charging inhibition apps by third parties on iOS and iPadOS because they modify the settings on your devices.

On iPadOS 18:
Settings - Battery - Battery Health - 80% Limit

Not sure about 26.

On iPad Pro running iPadOS 26.01.
Settings - Battery - Battery Health - 80% Limit
This is the way. Follow these steps from these guys above 👆🏻 as this is the only way

I don’t think they have an adjustable charge limit unlike latest iPhones have

Thanks Alots !

ios 18.3.x . Found it ! (aging eyes, this flood of menu points overwhelmes me @ new devices)

So, what ya think, can i just keep my charger permanently attached to my USB-C hub ?

I ´d like to do that this way. Since my (USB-C) audio interface which is also connected to that hub has no own PSU. It´s bus powered.

And just a note - AlDente is a Mac OS app only - but yeah the later iPads / iPhones / Watches allow an 80% limit which is nice.

I do this on my iPhone and iPad - and I leave them connected to power as much as I can throughout the day because it is convenient for me (I work at a computer M-F).

That's exactly what the 80% limit was designed for - for those of us who spend all day plugged in. :D

Enjoy!

Got it bro.

Yep if you use your iPad on your desk or use it as an external monitor via sidecar with your Mac 🖥️ then it’s ideal to do that to reduce cycle counts.

When I’m at home and not bringing my MacBook Pro around a lot like when I am in my room doing work meetings or not watching the telly in the living room I keep my Mac plugged in with 80% limit on al dente whenever it’s on my desk. Especially since I don’t have room for an external monitor I use a stand on my Mac with an external keyboard and mouse

My MBP M4 (owned for 3 months) only has a fraction of cycle counts like under <35 charge cycles per system information due to keeping it plugged into my desk when I’m home, versus my iPhone having moderate amount of cycle counts and its battery health changing in less than 6-7 months of usage.
