so I've updated to Big Sur 11.2.1 on my 13 Pro Early 2015, it is basically docked 24/7 so reckoned that the new and fancy charging control restricting the battery to 80% would be nice, but with me it pushes it to 100% and keeping it there..is it to old to benefit from this new stuff?

Leaving the MPB connected to the charger 24/7 can put you on a "path to a swollen battery".
I'd suggest unplugging the charger from the wall at night.
Also, every 3rd day or so, take it "off charge", run the battery down to about 45%, and then reconnect the charger...
