Battery charging while powered down

Does the new MBP battery charge while powered down? I left it off and charging overnight from almost empty and it only got to 45%. It's been charging fine now since it's been on. Is this normal? I've calibrated it once since buying it last week.

It should charge while in sleep, standby, off, everything. In fact, theoretically it'll charge *faster* while it's off since less of the supply power is going to running the hardware, it's all getting pushed to charging the battery.

Mine usually charges completely in less than an hour from 10% if it's turned off and plugged in.
