I need to know, apps like Battery Doctor and such, have features that say they can boost your RAM and clean out junk files to essentially make your iPhone/iPod run faster. I have the Battery Doctor app, but I need clarification. Do those apps REALLY work, or are they just a big hoax?

Nope, from personal experience which isn't a lot of experience anyway, they don't work. Apps are quite restricted when it comes to what they can do and an app claiming to be able to alter system information like that are simply bluffing. If want to preserve your battery...

  • Close any app when not in use
  • Reduce the apps using your location
  • Stop apps from running/refreshing in the background
  • Don't have your brightness up too much so it's really bright - control it
  • Using games like Angry Birds use a lot of system resources which drains the battery quick

Some really obvious stuff I know, but an app won't increase your battery life. It might give you some tips like above though.

I'm super uptight about optimizing my battery life. My iPod (4th gen) is gonna be slow seeing how its running 6.1.6 so i know lag is expected. i can live with it most of the time but i need to upgrade.

most of the apps help to do some of these, but you can actually do on your own and save that money for something else

i installed battery doctor (free) and i went from 1.9gb of available space to 6.3gb. seriously. i don't know exactly how it works but it does. and the phone runs so much better now. i think i had a ton of cached data in various apps built up over a year or more and it seems to have cleaned them all out.
