Hi all,

I just got the 15 Pro and I have realised that I am suffering from battery drain. My phone seems to be losing 5% battery overnight when it's not on charge which isn't normal clearly.

I must say that the signal in the area of my house where I leave my phone at night isn't great as I normally have only 1 or 2 bars of signal so I don't know if that's where the battery drain is coming from? However I am connected to Wifi at home and when I go onto battery settings, poor cellular signal is not on the list at all. Also when I had my 14PM, I don't ever remember losing 5% overnight.

Do you think I should return the phone as I have a defective unit?

disable always on display. Check if any apps that shouldn’t are using mobile data or location tracking.
I don't have always on display on which is why I am worried.

What do you mean by apps that shouldn't? How do I know which apps should and should not?

What he means is you might have an app that is constantly pulling data. Spotlight search battery and go to the setting and see if anything is using a significant amount.

Nothing looks unusual when I checked the battery settings
Music is my most used app at 27%, and then Home and Lock Screen at 14%.

With my 13 pro, I find that listening to music, whether with headphones or in the car (carplay), drains the battery faster than if I'm checking the web, emails, etc.
My wife's 15 pro drained quickly the first day. Troubling. She turned off the always on feature and did not complain the next day.
If this does bother you, I would take it back to the Apple Store, if you are near one and have them evaluate it. At least it would be on record.

I don't even have AOD on! I guess I will monitor the battery drain for the next couple of days and return it if I feel like it's not getting better.

Do you have a widget on your Lock Screen that is pulling data? For reference, my Lock Screen is 2% and that is with AOD on.

Is that happening while on WiFi or cell signal? If the latter, your poor connection may contribute to it. Do you use a VPN or do you have background app refresh on? I also don’t find 5% overnight excessive.

No I don't which is what is really worrying.

I would have returned the phone now but I don't have a backup phone as my 14PM was stolen which is why I got the 15Pro in the first place. Also, I was thinking of returning the 15 Pro anyway for the 15 Pro Max, but it seems like it is out of stock in most places in the UK, and there won't be stock for like another month, so I am kinda stuck tbh.

This is obviously really bothering you. Go back to the store and talk to them about it. I'm not sure how long you have to return and get full value back for your current phone, but I'm sure they would be happy to put you into a Max.

I have Wifi connected at home. I don't use a VPN and I do have background app refresh on but for only like 3 apps, which are Carrot Weather and WhatsApp.
When I had the 14PM, I think I would lose only 1% of battery overnight, not 5% with that I am experiencing with the 15 Pro.

I didn't get it from the Apple Store. I got it from Vodafone but they do have a 14 days return policy.

If you are near an Apple store, I would still take it there and ask them about the drain. They may say it's normal, or not, but at least you would have an answer from the phone's maker and a record.

I found my 15Pro battery settled down after a couple of days. I do know any notifications that are allowed to display banners or on the lock screen will drain the battery. I limit notification to only apps that I consider essential. I turned off the always on screen. If an app lights up the screen due to a notification I decide if I need that and if not it is turned off. The screen uses a lot of battery.

My first day with the phone I had 13% battery left by 5:pm. That was not what I expected as my 13Pro would have at least 60%. The third day with the 15Pro I had 50% by end of day. I figure a lot of indexing was going on plus possible downloading of old text and pictures the first couple of days. I also combed through Notifications and found several apps that I shut off or adjusted.

So far battery is much better but like you, I was concerned and keep an eye on it. I still have my 13Pro and I can always return the 15Pro. I don't want the 15PM as it is too large for my hands and I am reading a lot about how it gets hot.

How many days have you had it?

Background indexing with a new phone can take up to a few days.

Make sure your location and notification settings are the same. Sometimes updates will screw these up.

I would put the phone in low power mode when you go to sleep and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for this

It's a shame that we have to do all these things for a phone that expensive. It's like we are restricting our usage! If I had my old phone, I would have definitely returned it by now...and wait for the 15PM, or even for the 16PM lol.

I have had the phone since Saturday. What do you mean by location and notification settings are the same?

so I am guessing you are not experiencing any battery drain like I am? Do you turn anything off, like background app refresh and location services?

BTW currently 3:45h SOT + 90 min music/podcasts

No real drain. I have always background app refresh off. I turned off some location services which I don’t need

Your phone could still be indexing files and that could account for the slightly extra overnight battery drain.

I wasn't articulate when I wrote location and notifications settings.

What I specifically meant is, go through your notification settings AND go through your location settings to make sure they are set up the same way as before you got the new phone.

I know when I updated to iOS17 there were some changes. Meaning some notifications were automatically turned on and some location and privacy settings were also turned on.

5% of drain overnight is nothing and I would consider that normal on a modern phone. A lot of stuff happening in the background.

That said, I'm quite disappointed with the 15PM battery so far, but I feel that with every charge/discharge cycle it's getting somewhat better. I'll wait 2 weeks before falling my verdict.
